adult training

a few weekends ago, we hosted an Adult Development Training workshop for our partner ministries who work with adults in their community. Here's Life Inner City has 5 programs that work with adults: Beyond Bars, Career Link, Work Net, New Focus, and Holistic Hardware. click here to learn more about each of these programs.
it was really great to have shirley shakelford from little rock's HLIC come and do our training. i personally learned a lot, especially since I might be in the job market in the next few months :) 
a lot of the programs are for people looking for jobs and careers. it helps the analyze their talents and experience and put them to good use. at shirley's church they even have business clothing donated so that people can show up to interviews well dressed and feeling confident. each of these programs can be brief or extensive; from one-day seminars to 6-week trainings. some of them even include things like training in Microsoft Word and resume writing. i heard some great stories of people who had gone through WorkNet and learned to work their way up the corporate ladder to land their dream jobs and are doing well for themselves now. it is such a great ministry opportunity since these classes are all free- what a great way to love our community! joblessness is huge in the inner city, so by meeting that need we are able to open up many doors. missy himelick, our newest staff member, will be heading up this department at the Agape Center. she says that by the fall we will have a WorkNet training of our own! i am so excited!
