Lesson #3: Jehovah Jireh

3. Jehovah Jireh

If I could pick one attribute of God that I have seen the most, it is that He is the Great Provider. I have so many stories of when God came through for me when I thought He had forgotten. But the coolest story I think is about how God provided for me in Chicago. Not only did He raise all my support on time, but much more. I was only able to move up with as much stuff as I could fit in my Camry; no bed, no furniture. I thought "well, if God really wants me in Chicago then He's going to provide everything I need to live there". My first week there I lived with a staff couple and turns out they had an extra bunk bed and mattresses they weren't using that they said I could borrow for the year. And then the only apartment my roommate and I could afford was a, you guessed it, one bedroom. Good thing they had bunk-beds, eh? So SJ and I had beds, but nothing else. We literally sat on the floor to eat dinner. One day I was at the Agape Center (where I was working) and my boss told me to talk to one of our volunteers, Michaelle, about furniture because she was from a big church and would have some connections. I introduced myself to her and told her of my need for furniture. (Mind you at this point I was just hoping for anything that semi-resembled a couch or chair. I figured I could get new stuffing and a slipcover). Well Michaelle starts crying and I'm thinking "Did I say something wrong?" and she proceeds to tell me that the day before the Lord had told her she needed to give away her basement furniture, but she didn't know to who. That moment was just as special for each of us I think because God provided for me and Michaelle was able to respond in obedience. So SJ and I show up at Michaelle's the weekend thinking we'll get some old 1980's furniture. Nope. It was new, stylish, and leather; it was perfect. But this memory doesn't stick out to me because I got some sweet furniture, but because God was so intricately involved in the process for some couches. God had proven yet again that He cared deeply for me and all of my needs would be met...and beyond my expectations.

But like I said, this is only one story out of many. These lessons show me time and time again that God knows exactly what you need and will provide it (sometimes it looks different than what you expected though). He has so much more invested in your life than you are, so why wouldn't he care for you ? I mean, come on...He died on the cross for you! You are His beloved child, with whom He is well pleased! So what do you need to trust God with for today?

"And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." -Philippians 4:19
